Shipping cake jars isn’t always easy, especially during warmer months. In fact, we pause most standard shipments in the summer because of the heat. While we do offer FedEx 2-day shipping at checkout for those who still want to order, most of our cake jar deliveries happen from fall through the holidays, when cooler temps make it easier to ship fresh. Over time, we've tested and refined a packing process that works well for long-distance orders. Whether you're sending a gift or ordering a bundle for yourself, here’s exactly how we ship our cake jars to keep them safe, fresh, and ready to enjoy. What We Use to Ship Our Cake JarsWe don’t just toss cake jars in a box and hope for the best. Here’s what goes into every shipment:
Every jar is wrapped tightly and packed with care. Once everything’s loaded, we seal it with heavy-duty foil tape to keep cold air in and warm air out. Why We Ship FrozenWe freeze our cake jars before shipping. That helps keep them cool longer and gives us a buffer in case a shipment gets delayed. It’s the best way we’ve found to keep your cakes fresh without needing dry ice or a cooler. ▶ Watch Melissa Pack a Cake Jar OrderWhen your box arrives, your jars may be cold, partially frozen, or just slightly chilled, depending on how far it traveled. All of that is normal. Pop them in the fridge to enjoy within a few days, or stash them in the freezer for longer storage. Summer Shipping NoteShipping goods in the summer can be challenging. Because cake jars are perishable and sensitive to heat, we limit shipments during hot weather unless you select 2-day shipping with FedEx at checkout. This helps reduce the risk of spoilage during transit. We’ll always prioritize quality over speed, especially when temperatures rise. What to Do When Your Cake Jars ArriveEvery order comes with a sticker on the box that says: "REFRIGERATE UPON ARRIVAL." Here’s what to do:
They thaw beautifully, just move one from the freezer to the fridge overnight or leave it at room temperature for 20-30 minutes. Need to know what to do once your jars arrive? Read this post on whether cake jars need to be refrigerated and how to store them safely. How Long Will the Cake Jars Last?In the fridge, your cake jars will stay fresh for up to 5-7 days. In the freezer, they’ll last up to a month. We don’t use any preservatives, so the freshness comes from our shipping method and your quick storage. What If There’s a Shipping Delay?Delays can happen, but we’ve built our process around that. Freezing before shipment, gel packs, insulation, plus jars that can handle an extra day or two in transit. If your jars arrive warm, damaged, or unsealed, please email us right away with photos so we can make it right. We’re proud of how we pack, but we know not every carrier handles boxes with care. Why the Packaging MattersWe get a lot of compliments on our packaging, not just because it looks cute (although it does), but because it keeps your cake jars protected.
We treat every order like it’s a gift, because it usually is. A Quick Note About the EnvironmentWe’re always working on ways to reduce waste without sacrificing freshness. Our bubble pouches are recyclable, and we’re exploring compostable insulation options for future shipments. Before You Order: A Few Quick Tips
