This weekend is all about pink bows, polka dots, and one very sweet celebration. We’re baking for a 2nd birthday party with a Minnie Mouse theme, and we go all out. From a custom two-tier Minnie Mouse cake to matching cupcakes and dipped treats, everything is styled with her signature look: pink, black, white, and a pop of sparkle. It’s a full dessert table moment, made to feel playful and personal. The birthday girl’s name is Ayana, and her mom asks for a cake that feels fun, girly, and classic Disney but still clean and polished. We start by building the full dessert menu around that vision. The Minnie Mouse Cake DesignAt the center of the setup is our custom two-tier Minnie Mouse cake with a matching fondant bow. It’s one of our favorite designs, equal parts cute and clean. The top tier is lemon cake layered with lemon buttercream. Bright, tart, and a little unexpected, it gives the perfect contrast to the sweeter bottom tier. For the base, we bake strawberry cake with a strawberry vanilla crème filling. The two flavors balance each other while keeping the color palette consistent inside and out. We cover the entire cake in white fondant with pink and white accents, oversized polka dots, little fondant flowers, and a bold pink bow that matches Minnie’s signature look. Black fondant ears finish the design. The cake sits on a scalloped fondant base, with ruffled trim that adds extra texture and dimension. Her name, Ayana, is placed front and center in a white fondant plaque with a delicate border. This is one of the most requested Minnie Mouse cake layouts we’ve done, and still one of the most photographed. Matching Minnie Mouse CupcakesTo go with the cake, we make a dozen matching Minnie Mouse cupcakes. Each one is topped with pink swirls of vanilla frosting, fondant ears, and mini pink bows. The cupcake flavors include:
Both are topped with edible decorations that tie back to the main cake. This helps the full display feel connected and cohesive, whether someone grabs a cupcake or slices into the cake, the theme stays strong. The Minnie ear cupcake toppers are made from fondant and dried ahead of time, so they stand upright without sinking into the frosting. We place them into the swirl at a slight angle to mimic the look of Minnie’s ears poking through her bow. Extra Treats: Chocolate Dipped Oreo & PretzelsFor extra fun (and easy snacking), we add chocolate-dipped Oreos and pretzel rods to the mix. Both are dipped in pink-tinted chocolate, with fondant bows and polka dots added before the chocolate sets. They give the dessert table some variety and add a salty-sweet bite for guests who want something beyond cake. The pretzels are dipped halfway and laid out in clear treat bags with mini ribbons, a great add-on that can double as favors for the kids to take home. A Full Minnie Mouse Party SetupThis setup isn’t just about one cake or one type of dessert. It’s about creating a full party experience, where every dessert brings something to the table. The Minnie Mouse cake grabs the spotlight, but everything else helps make the display feel full, festive, and fun. We arrange the cake at the center of the table, with cupcakes on stands to give height and layers. The Oreos and pretzels are placed in glass jars and clear trays to keep the pink-and-white color scheme going throughout. Black and white Minnie cutouts, plus personalized name toppers, help finish the look. Even though it’s all made from scratch and decorated by hand, it’s built to be kid-friendly and easy to serve. The cake cuts clean, the cupcakes hold their shape, and the dipped snacks stay fresh at room temp. Why This Minnie Mouse Cake Is Still a FavoriteWe still get asked about this Minnie Mouse cake years later, and for good reason. It shows how you can take a simple party theme and build something custom without making it feel overdone or too busy. Each element matches without repeating itself. And because it’s built with real cake and buttercream (no shortcuts), it’s as good to eat as it is to look at. This design also works for baby showers, 1st birthdays, or any Minnie-loving milestone. You can swap flavors, tweak the bow color, or simplify it into a single tier, but the overall look still feels sweet and special. Want Something Like This? While we don’t offer custom cakes or cupcakes anymore, we still love making desserts that feel fun, thoughtful, and ready to gift or share.
